Lisbon Teams: Diz-Cu Jr. and Diz-Cu Sr.

Diz-Cu ("Say-Ass") was the first Ultimate team in Portugal. Started in 1996 the first practices and pick-up games were scheduled on grass. However, since the Portuguese are notorious for being late and waiting in a park is less appealing than waiting on a beach, the playing field was quickly moved to the beach. In 2006 the players split into 2 teams: Diz-Cu Junior and Diz-Cu Senior

Pedro and PlinioDiz-Cu players are a mixed bunch. Students, parents, doctors, programmers and other people from Portugal and abroad. If you are in the Lisbon area, we'd love to see you show up for a good game of pick-up on Thursday nights at 20:30 on the beach of Carcavelos, or Sunday afternoons in Carcavelos in front of Bar Grande Onda at around 6 PM. Both beaches are 20 minutes away from Lisbon with stops on the train line towards Cascais (35 km west of Lisbon)

Diz-Cu 2006If you want to be sure if there are pickup games, have a look on our mailing list or the Diz-Blog to see if there are any games scheduled this week. Please keep in mind that if you don't see people at the right time at the right spot... We are on our way. We're just a bit late... ;-)

Pickup (everyone welcome. Last updated 2 June 2008):
  • Thursdays at 21:00h - Carcavelos beach (18 Km west of Lisbon), in front of Bar Granda Onda (middle of the beach) .
  • Sundays at 18:00h - Carcavelos beach (same place as above)

Palmela team: Vira'O'Disco Frisbee Club
Vira'O'Disco is a Frisbee Club founded in January 2005, made by 20 people where the passion for the Frisbee is the energy of it all. Vira'O'Disco promotes Frisbee in its several modalities and also promotes the human values associated to them. We get to go to schools to do demonstrations and to teach students and teachers how to play Beach Ultimate Frisbee. Mostly that's what we practice, Beach Ultimate Frisbee, but there´s always room for some Freestyle and Golf. We practice three times a week and if you want to come feel free to contact us. We believe that Frisbee is the best flying object ever made by Man...

Vira'O'Disco practices are:
  • Wednesday: 18h30– 20h00m, grass field of Vanicelos (aka Jurássico).
  • Saturday: 15h00– 17h00m, Figueirinha Beach, Setúbal.

Porto team: Gira-Discos

Gira Discos
Gira-Discos (Turntable) started in 2005, when some Frisbee enthusiasts decided to come together and play some Ultimate. We are eager to build up a competitive team and welcome anybody who wants to play with us, no previous experience required. We usually play on Tuesday evenings, from 20h30 to 21h30 in Centro Desportivo da Boa Hora (CDUP).

If you feel like doing some sports and having fun with some discs after hours, just come and join us or contact us.

Coimbra

Before May 2005, Frisbee was seen as the plate underneath the flower vase in our balcony that could be used to throw at the head of some unwanted individual.

From the moment that people discovered that it could be used to play for real, a group of friends decided to spread the word and promote Frisbee as a valid sport. People started gathering, stopping to see others playing, trying it and becoming Frisbee players. Discentro was born. People started playing Ultimate Frisbee at Parque Verde da Cidade, but as Coimbra didn't have good conditions in term of parks, the sport turned itself to indoor, and it still remains an indoor sport.

The team already has 10 players and is growing with new members joining who learn with the more experienced ones. Together the group is evolving and expanding the sport. The team is mixed, open to all ages and it is trying to gather new players. http://www.discentro.pt.vu/
